    Homecoming-2013


     

    Hilarity, hoopla, high energy...Homecoming!  It's one big week!  Homecoming 2013 is jam-packed full of on campus fun and great activities for students, alumni, parents, friends of Simpson, faculty and staff - anyone who calls Simpson University home. You don't want to miss any of it!

    Spirit Week, coordinated by student leadership teams, is not to be missed!  You'll enjoy dress up days, fun activities like GYFAD (Get Your Friend a Date), contests, A.B. Simpson's Amazing Race and competitions with prizes! If you are a local alumni and want to check out the fun that's happening on campus, we would love for you to stop by and join the festivities!

    FRIDAY, FEB. 8  
    All Day   Grandparent Day
    Grandparents will be spending the day with their students, enjoying activities planned specifically for them.
    All Day   Class Visits
    Do you have a favorite professor? Perhaps you can make a visit to his or her class! We will have a list available of classes which are open to our guests.

    10:20 am   Alumni Chapel
    Join us as we welcome and recognize distinguished alumni and grandparents. Jonathan Young ('99) will be sharing details about his life in ministry as Regional Field Director for The ONE Campaign where he has the opportunity to help inspire raising voices, and to take action across the country, for 1 billion people who are steeped in extreme global poverty.

    Discover more information at this interactive workshop on the scope of work done by The ONE Campaign that works bring awareness to world hunger.
    1:15 pm   Prayer Walk
    This is a combined prayer walk that includes grandparents of current students and alumni. You'll have a chance to remember the great times you had at Simpson as well as learn about the new Nursing and Science Building (groundbreaking slated for Spring 2013) and the baseball field which is in the process of being built.
    6 pm   Alumni Banquet
    Jonathan Young ('99)
     is our featured speaker and will share about his work with musician Bono's "The ONE Campaign." The dinner will be held at one of Redding's most popular restaurants, C.R. Gibbs Grill. We've lowered the actual cost of the dinner to only $12 for single tickets; $20 per couple. Great food, great fellowship, great deal!

    12 pm   Hall of Fame Induction Luncheon
    Friends and family are invited to this luncheon sponsored by SU Athletics Department. The following athletes will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
    Women's Basketball: Katie (Soll) Banks ('04)
    Men's Soccer: Phil Luukkonen ('03)
    Volleyball: Stacy McIntosh ('99)
    4-7 pm   Tailgate Party Extravaganza & Barbecue
    This is a "rain-or-shine" Alumni Association event that has something for everyone -- students, alumni, and families. We will have free-throw contests, face painting, inflatable jump house, basketball game, and 30-foot fun course, a catered BBQ, games, prize wheel, visits from the Red Hawk mascot and more! Booths will be set-up with carnival style games. Soft drinks, goodies, and popcorn concession stands will be available with all proceeds to benefit student mission teams. Cost for the BBQ is an incredibly low $2/students & children under 10; $5 for alumni; $7 for other guests.

      Basketball Games vs. Pacific Union--Women's game begins at 6:30 p.m.; Men's game begins at 8:30 p.m. Half time activities include crowning of Homecoming King and Queen, raffle for free throw contest with chance to win an Apple IPad 2. Cost: $3 for alumni and children under 10; $2 for seniors and military; $5 for other guests.
     SUNDAY, FEB. 10 -- BONUS EVENT! 
    5:30 pm   This event is a fundraiser to benefit the Redding Community Baseball Field. In the spirit of the game, guests will enjoy an evening of baseball stadium themed food, silent and live auctions and baseball tales from the legendary SF Giants announcer, Jon Miller. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite baseball attire. This event has separate registration. Please click here for more information..

    A block of rooms has been reserved at the Oxford Suites in Redding, approximately 3 miles from campus. Please call  800.762.0133 and request the Simpson University Homecoming rate. Rooms are subject to availability at a rate of $89 (plus taxes) per night and include an full breakfast.
